Drew Carey’s Surprising Slimming Secret…

| More

By now, you’ve probably seen the pictures of Drew Carey all over the ‘net (or here, taken from the ‘net) – he has lost over 80 pounds since January. He looks great, and he has firmly committed to keeping it off.

How did he do it?

His key (and yours, and mine) was and is good old fashioned exercise and a brand new menu.

His new regimen is quite strict – in addition to the “no donuts” rule he made for himself (good call there), he has taken a huge step to cut out grains and processed carbs completely!

In addition to changing his diet, he has committed to exercise as well, and hits the gym 5-6 times per week for 45 minutes each session.

But it was probably plastic surgery, or some miracle pill, right?

We read those rumors earlier this year, too. We had heard that thanks to his connections in Hollywood, he was taking a custom made nutritional supplement to curb his appetite. (Do we smell a cheater?!)

Now we are reading that this is not true, and Carey himself insists it is not true either.

He reported to People Magazine: “There’s nobody really standing over me. I do work with somebody who gives me advice on what to do, how many minutes to run, what my heart rate should be and all that kind of stuff.”

Straight from the horse’s mouth! (Or should it be “pony” considering he has lost so much weight?)

The Best Part

Thanks to Drew’s new healthier lifestyle, he has actually been able to get rid of his diabetes!

He was a Type-2 diabetic, and thanks to losing weight and becoming healthier, Carey reveals he is no longer considered diabetic and has stopped taking medication!

Visible Evidence

Carey continues to encourage himself – when he saw how his determination paid off, now wearing a 33 inch waist pant (down from a 44 inch waist), he became more determined to lose even more weight and regain his health:

“I like being skinny,” says Carey. “I was sick of being fat on the camera. Really, I just got sick of it.”

If the Price is Right host, who seemingly has every short cut method to losing weight just sitting there at his fingertips, instead chooses the old fashioned way of eating right and working out, is there any excuse left for us?

Pills Don’t Work

If you’ve tried to lose weight before, you know that popping pills does not help. Yes, you may lose weight, but you do gain it back – and usually you gain even more than you lost!

At the same time, however, it makes sense to want to try those pills. First, the commercials make them look like demigods in a bottle, and second, it is really hard to stay on a strict diet.

However, committing to a decent meal plan and moderate exercise is really the only tried and true way to take weight off and keep it off. You’ve got to have that desire, like Drew did, to want to change your lifestyle.

It looks like Drew made a change in the way he thinks about himself in order to make his incredible transformation; hopefully he keeps it up.

If you want me to discuss strategies that might allow you to make this kind of transformation, please comment at the end of this post. We have a lot of experience here!

Yes!!! Discuss….good old fashion math calories in vs. calories out is not the math my body uses….and although there is an underlying healthy problem…these pounds do not respond to my healthy…VERY healthy eating and exercise. I personally, like to hear about the avg. Joe to who did the work and reaped the rewards….no short cuts….the weight didn’t slip into your body overnight…it won’t leave overnight.

  • Samantha

Big Secret!! But yes the biggest part is mental for sure. I have struggled with this my entire life. whenever something stressful happens in my life I pack on the pounds and it is frustrating. I am very proud of Mr. Carey

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=730097873 Jennifer Bowman

This is great!! I have had issues with my weight all my life. I think that is all it takes sometimes, something clicks in your brain saying I don’t want to look like this or I have to get healthy again. That is a lot of weight in 8 months. That is wonderful for him and hopefully he can stick with what he is doing.

  • TGIF

nice, good to see that even celebs actually resort to good old fashioned ways of getting healthy

  • WebPixie

Why would taking a supplement be cheating? And why is any other method of losing weiight besides lowering calories and excersize considered a short cut? Any method someone uses to lose large amounts of weight is never easy.

  • San

    Good for Drew!!!
I am an older female (55) and am having trouble losing weight. I wonder if my thyroid is at the cause of this, but have found no doctor who will really listen to my symptoms. What is the best way to lose 35 pounds in a safe, slow way for us “older” adults. I know I should be exercising more, as well . . . . .any other ideas of how to shed this weight for good. I remember how it felt to be slender and want that feeling back!!!

  • http://affinityhealthprofessionals.com Drpepper

Check out Dr. David Brownstein’s book on Overcoming Thyroid Disorders. Great info to see if this is possibly the underlying cause.

  • worried

Good for him!! He decided that enough was enough and did a great job! I am also in need of losing a significant amount of weight but am really worried about the skin not going back and having alot of loose skin hanging around once I acheive my goal. Is my skin elastic even at 43?

  • Pianofritz

I liked the page for an entirely different reason. How many times do you have to be fooled by the come-on “Click here to read all about it” when it reall means “Click here to BUY the sotry on how to do it”?

I was pleasantly surprised to have something I can show to my wife who is having a terrible time with weight loss. Bravo!

  • Tracy Mannikko

my doctor put me on thyroid meds and did not know what she was doing I find out three years later…she was just following the pharma reps info and plugging the symptoms in to the medical book for a diagnosis! with further testing from Dr DiCenso’s MAP test at the cellualr lever–I discovered I did not have a thyroid problem–but a digestive problem. I was simply not getting enough nutrients. After getting rid of my first doctor, finding an MD with a more holistic apporach and still working with Dr DiCenso’s protocol (detoxing work and getting rid of heavy metals combined with healthy eating) I have been reducing the thyroid meds and happy to say I am almost free of them….one more month and I will have no meds for Thyroid and my body stay healthy by making health food choices and regular excercise. I have leardn there is no substitute for doing your own homework…and one cannot just trust that their doctor knows everything simply because they have an MD behind their name!

  • Atlantisaurora

I bought a weight loss information product from you last winter and still can’t find it. Originally it was choked with so much extra adds for more of your info products, i couldn’t open it. Can you help me with this finally?
    atlantisaurora@yahoo.com

  • Ccarrier333

I totally agree. Have you ever read the book by Geneen Roth? It is called Women Food and God. I am not religious but I thought the book was great.

    Good luck!

  • http://www.exploringthemind.com Michael Lovitch

Thanks… It is tempting since we publish a great product for this. But I don’t like the blatant bait and switch either…

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_5UFCM7NDZ5AW6GMZGUEKW6LF6I Alison

I am concerned that he is cutting out ALL carbs. Carbs are an essential energy source. Could he mean all simple carbs/sugars?

  • Shelley

I would love to hear more about strategies and true facts about weight loss and exercise. I am trying to lose about 60 lbs. and it sometimes feels so hard and frustrating and that it is never going to come off. I know I am the only one that can make it happen and it needs to start today and not the whole “I’ll start on Monday” thanks for the good you do!

    ~ Shelley

  • Kyalpa

I’ve always been a fan and am glad to see the transformation. I am turning 50 in a few weeks and committed myself to losing as much of my excess weight as possible before then. So far, I’ve managed to lose about 33 pounds in just over 3 months. How? The same way. I cut my diet and started exercising almost every day. I still have 20 pounds to lose but I am more committed than ever to getting it off, and keeping it off. It feels so great to no longer see thatfat person looking back at me from the mirror every day.

  • Jmallul

Well, I for one would like you to discuss strategies that might allow me to make this kind of transformation. As a senior citizen I should be eating less, since I do less activities, but for me it is “hugh appetite” and do less. I have put on 70 pounds and sure need to get it off. I also love chocolate and sweets and it seems I can’t go a day without getting some sort of dessert. Staying up late at night is something I have always done, but now I am also eating late at night which is around 2 a.m. before I go to bed. I really need lots of help.

  • Grammyluvsyou

I’m going to check out this book. Thanks for the tip.

  • Jeannev

At 43, your skin is still fairly elastic. Still, a huge quick weight loss could cause some loose skin. If you eat sensibly and exercise (muscles do a lot to decrease loose skin) and lose 1 – 2 lbs per week, you will minimize the amount of loose skin. Just remember, loose skin doesn’t affect your health like fat does and you will look better with some loose skin than will with rolls of fat!

  • Jeannev

He probably means all simple carbs and starchy carbs, including bread, rice, potatoes, pasta, etc., while allowing vegetables and some fruits. I don’t think that’s heal;thy in the long run. Better to cut the simple/white carbs and reduce the starchy carbs to 3 servings per day

  • Kmac

What can you do to gear down your appetite? I want to eat 24 hours a day!

  • Tim

Please give any and all information and help you can. I’ve had 5 heart attacks and have 8 stents; I am 100 pounds over fat, am a 57 year old man with diabetes and cogestive heart failure… And not a lot hope. This was an encouraging story and I’d love more details. I feel pretty helpless and hopeless. Thank you. Tim

  • diana k

I had to stop using the word/concept of “diet” as this word indicates a start and stop point for whatever program. Regaining health and maintaining a normal body weight happens thru life style changes…not till you hit goal but for life…exercise and healthy carb balanced meals in small portions through out the day fuels and maintains correct nutrients needed to be healthy. Our fast food mentality won’t cut it! Food has to be real! Exercise has to be real! As a former obease 50 year old women I did this over 3 yrs with walking and changing the food I ate. I am maintaining 110pd loss. As I grow stronger I am able to use more intense activity (running) it can be done…n should be done slowly so your brain can learn also… my motto is to educate, to motivate, to activate! Good luck to those on their journey! Diana

  • Lynnek89

I am a senior citizen and a chocoholic. To date I have lost 34 lbs and have 21 lbs to go. Like Drew Carey, I choose to do it the ‘old fashioned’ way, but I don’t cut all carbs. I’ve increased my fiber intake and balance my diet with protein, fruits, and lots of vegetables. As for my unrelenting need for chocolate (everyday), I discovered Vita Muffins and VitaTops from Vitalicious. I’m not plugging them, it’s just that I finally found a way to satisfy my chocolate cravings in a healthy way. As far as lack of activity goes, I like to walk but you don’t have to ‘torture’ yourself with formal exercises, just find some music that you like and dance. Any increase in activity will pump up your heart rate and burn calories.

  • Harmonize60

I, too, have made the decision to lose weight the old fashioned way. I joined Curves and am counting calories. However, I would like to have a healthier diet to follow. I have arthritis and have been reading the research on arachodonic acid relationship to arthritis. I would like to have a diet that is “normal” but leaning more towards the vegetarian side of things. I don’t know how to plan meals around that concept. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Collie

I too am in my 50′s and have experienced the problem of not being able to shed those pounds. Seems I work out more and eat less and still that scale does not budge. Have been to more doctor’s and it’s not the thyroid either. I just recently purchased “Enjoying Weight Loss” by Roberta Temes, with Hypnosis Network, mentioned through Tom Venuto’s web site. I bought this a short time ago and have already lost 7lbs. This works. I am amazed. I am happy to finally see something working. I don’t know why the hypnosis works, but whatever it is, I am happy.

  • Lawja02

    Yeah, lets discuss

  • Bound&Determined

If your plate is filled with half of green, yellow, red etc vegetables, 1/4 protein (lean) and 1/4 complex carbs (this does not include bread, white potatoes, white rice) then you will achieve that balance. Research shows that around 400 calories per meal with satisfy your cravings and keep you from snacking.

  • Josephine

How strict was he with eliminating carbs?

  • Anonymous

I just can’t imagine living without whole grains! But then I realize that they also require butter &/or something sweet on them!

  • Mel

The article says “processed carbs” so to me that means things like crackers, bread, pasta, etc. Potatoes and other starchy whole foods and whole fruit aren’t “processed” in my book. But who knows what he’s actually eating???

  • Mary

It sounds like Drew had a trainor and he also was on one of those diets–Jenny Craigs?? Of course that makes it easier and many don’t have those expensive options,
I totally disagree with him cutting out grains. whole grains are a part of a healthy diet, and do not raise the blood sugar detrementally for a diabetic.
i give drew credit for sticking to his goald though. he seems very happy to be less hefty, and more healthy.
    Mary

  • Dasc02000

Stay away from MSG – which is in just about everything you eat from a restaurant and from processed foods. Google: MSG obesity and you will find scientific studies showing mice given the same amount per serving as the typical american diet of MSG eats 40% more food and is obese.

  • Anonymous

I am also listening to those hypnosis cds but have yet to see any weight reduction. I have a digital scales & I can’t stand still enough to be able to see what my weight is. But neither do I feel like I’ve lost anything. Neither have my tastes changed. I’m in the middles of a remodel job so don’t get on my recumbent bike to get some exercize. I do intend to, tho! I hope that’s not just a “put off”! I have a BAD lower back problem that seriously hinders my ability to get the exercize I need!

  • Anonymous

I got down to a size 12 when we were able to dance once a week, but then my knees & lower back put that to a screeching halt! When my remodeling is completed I’m looking to start a regular routine with my recumbent bike. Can anybody recommend a goal for me to be working towards? And thanks! I really appreciate this blog! ;o)

  • Anonymous

Congratulations! I’m so happy for you! :o )

  • Fulely

OK Im pissed, I got fat by sitting around and having 23 surgeries and Im feeling better now and want my strong and talented body back. Im 56 and just saw a pic that was taken at Niagra falls and it made me sick to see what life has done to me. Fight or loose it for ever, one more chance for me and Im not gonna sit here and look like a fat lazy drinken cigar smoken player from some hick town USA. Watch my ass loose 35 lbs. I can do and have any thing on this earth and I want this skinny ass back again.

  • Rdrunr20033

Curves has a wonderful little book with recipes that are good for you and some are new ideas for me. Goes along well with the exercise regimen

  • Saundraanne

Alright, I am so happy for Drew. It took hard work, a positive attitude, will power & discipline to drop that weight. I read the article on IMG! and I quote…

In early May, the National Enquirer reported that The Price Is Right host, 52, was dieting and working out. A month later, it claimed Carey was using an “custom-made appetite suppressant administered by a Hollywood nutritionist.”

So, I feel that he may have used an appetite suppressant, and should tell the truth about it. Was the information the National Enquirer reporting true or false? I would like to know the rest of the story.

Also, if he used a custom made appetite suppressant, give us more infor on this nutritionist. If it is herbal, caffiene free, drug free I would love to read up about it.

  • Rdrunr20033

I don’t know about everyone else … but I tend to think of things being easy … one day on TV you see a “skinny” person and forget about all the time, exercise and discipline it takes to get there!!!! Its not MAGIC! Keep up the good work Drew … and not the easy way … the healthy way!

  • Saundraanne

Oops…I read the article in OMG!

  • Lifespringhealth

yes, 43 is young. you will get your tone back, especially if you eat enough protein and excersize!

  • Shel

It’s always easier for the stars or someone on TV. They have the money to buy the different things to eat better, whether it be chefs or food prepared from some place. They have personal trainers that tell them exactly what to do to transform there bodies, then they have the money to go to plastic surgeons to have the rolls trimmed away without anyone even knowing cause they pay them off to keep quiet. I knew a lady that had lost about 100 lbs on the diabetic diet with exercise and she has rolls of skin left. I don’t care what anyone says when you lose that much weight your going to have skin hanging somewhere unless you have a plastic surgeon. Oh sorry Mary, this was nothing pertaining to what you posted just hit the wrong reply…lol and didn’t feel like redoing it.

  • Genellebrown

I agree that cutting out the carbs and grain do the job. I started that, adding a half grapefruit at each meal, on July 27th. I started at 260 and was at 248 yesterday, 8/12. My mother used to know that if she got a few pounds over, the first thing she did was cut the carbs. In a few days, the extra several pounds were gone. I’ve also been reading medicine for the last 7 years and know that cutting carbs will also cut the diabetes. I’m convinced the health care industry pushes carbs in order for all health related industries to stay in business! :o )

  • Shel

I know I have been doing the diabetic low glycemic diet and it is 1200 to 1500 calories a day and I never thought I could because I’m so used to shoving anything and everything in my mouth but actually it has been good. I’m very satisfied after I eat and I feel full for quite some time. Actually I feel like I have more energy also. So I just want to lose about 40 lbs and get healthier for myself and for my son.

  • shel

I believe to lose weight you really have to have your mind set to it. Otherwise you give up once an urge comes in. I have tried lots of different diets and find that some of them just make you plain sick, headaches, stomach aches….Then I find myself wanting to stop because I feel just awful. But I have to say this week I decided to go on a low glycemic index diabetic diet. which is really just eating the way you should. I have really enjoyed it. No headaches, no feeling of nausea, I actually feel full and satisfied after eating. You can find the amount of food to eat and what is good for you and bad for you and most sites are free information. I do feel better but I don’t know if I have lost anything as of yet. I don’t feel so bloated and you know just that blah feeling. Just thought I’d share.

  • Michelle

I stopped reading as soon as I got to “huge step to cut out grains” – how ridiculous! Our ancestors survived on predominately grain-based diets for thousands of years – it’s all the processing and refinement that is making everyone so fat and unhealthy.

  • Aliciab

I have had great success with Dr. Temes’ CDs. It helped a lot with the night time munchies.I think it is just changing the way you talk to yourself.

  • Maryann McKitrick

Whatever the plan, it’s sticking to that plan, which is the secret of success.

  • Martbar56

    Good for Drew.
It really does take incredible discipline, a combination of diet & exercise, and a plan you can live with for the rest of your life.
Over the past year I’ve gone low-carb, high-fiber, workout 5-6 days a week. I’ve lost 167 pounds and have about 40 to go — have lost not just inches but A FOOT AND A HALF off my hips/rear. Tom Venuto’s exercise tips about building muscle/burning fat and Geneen Roth’s last book (NOT her others) are VERY helpful. You all can do it.
I’m 53 and have reversed my diabetes, no longer take medication for cholesterol, triglycerides, and high blood pressure. Skin is tightening slowly but surely–hey, I’m 53 here! Doc says give the skin another six months to catch up. Positive self-talk is vital. Learn the skills. YOU CAN DO IT, TOO!!!!

  • Walt

That’s GREAT for Drew! You neglect to mention that Drew was a notorious heavy drinker and “partier” for years. Stopping or severely cutting back on the booze will automatically make a person drop pounds and the bloated look from retaining fluids. It IS the diet, exercise and lifestyle change though, that produces long-term lasting results.

Congratulations Drew! Don’t get TOO skinny though!

  • JB

I don’t know if I would say other things are “cheating” but the truth is, most don’t work and the ones that do work don’t work for the long term. Most supplements that curb appetite are built off of stimulants which are never good for you. The safest way to lose weight and keep it off, is good ‘ol will power, eating right and staying active. If you need a safe way to help with that will power, instead of taking supplements that MAY be harmful for you, instead find a group or a reputable hypnosis program to aid you instead.

  • Josephine

Hey that is fantastic! Well done!

  • lovekat

He looks about 20 years younger too – and HANDSOME! Good on him. His body will be eternally grateful.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000651020609 Irina Shulkin

This is true that Diabetes type 2 is curable through changes in the diet and exercises. First I’ve heard it from Neal Barnard, physician and published author who wrote specifically on diabetes. I have met him during his book signing. I wandered about the audience…mostly diabetics and their spouses. One guy almost attacked me with intimidating tirade that he knows everything but will not give up the meat and potato….Another group were following the CHIP program that was developed by 7 days Adventists in Loma Linda University, CA. They were healthy (mind and body), following the knowledge and optimistic to share. The secrete is: brain versus stomach….who governs you. Vegan diet is very delicious and 70% raw even better. I have the client right now who’s blood sugar normalized within one week on the Raw diet and Fasting..and she can not even exercise now because of long damaged knees. Diabetes goes away much faster then we proceed through this program. She loves the food and planning to become a Raw chef so food is delicious. No hunger, lost weight, no pain, cheerful and optimistic attitude. I agree with Drew….miracles done by us, “the people”…when we desperate enough for change.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000651020609 Irina Shulkin

I have noticed it and agree…carbs in our body is a primary energy source. I hope that he means only refined carbs…..

  • Lgrn4kids

I just purchased the same hypnosis tapes, also from Tom’s website. I am also doing a similar diet to what Drew said he is doing, and I have lost 20 lbs. The only carbs I eat for now are veggies and fruits, and although I am allowed to have lentils or brown rice in very small amounts, I have chosen not to add them yet as I am trying to still lose another 30 pounds. I do have protein 3 times a day, and I work out 1 to 1-1/2 hours 5-6 days a week, and I am not hungry and do not feel deprived. I have finally come to realize that restricted carbs just works for me. The hypnosis tapes seem great, although I just started the first one, and I really can’t wait to do the rest! I think they will really help with long term success!

  • Enid

I have been eating the way you describe Carey’s regime as well as working out 6 days/week (I’ve been working out for nearly 27 years intensively) and the no processed foods/sugar/wheat has been a life-saver. Your belly flattens out and your body exhitibs lean muscle mass due to the accelerated metabolic effects. Good for Carey–it takes a lot of tenacity and determination.

  • Enid

I believe that he means refined sugar and carbs from baked/wheat products. Baked/wheat products convert as sugar when your body is metabolizing them and have a high glycemic index (so it’s particularly bad for Diabetics)–they also combine with cortisol and rest on your belly–so belly fat occurs even though a person is working out. Carbs in other forms are or should be consumed, ie. cooked grains like Quinoa, brown rice, etc. and vegetables (like broccoli as well as others) and legumes also are a source of carbs.

  • Lorena222

I have done the same thing for six years. I eat low carb veggies such as lettuce, broccoli, green beans, tomatoes, mushrooms, etc. plus protein such as meat, eggs, and cheese. I get less than 10 grams of carbs most days. I burn ketones for fuel instead of sugar and I feel great. I too have lost 80 pounds and kept it off.

  • Annchapman

I hear more and more people cutting carbs from their diets – or at the very least they stop eating carbs at lunch time. Is this really necessary?

  • Cornec

That is great for Drew he looks stunning. Is it possible to receive the diet plan that he
followed. I’m 57 and just can’t get rid of a few pounds. The huge difference it makes to gain a few pounds is incredible my mood, attitude etc is so down. Not to mention struggling to fit into my clothes at the end of the day. Hope to follow soon.

  • Heather

If you don’t really have a thyroid problem, why are you still on the meds at all? Why didn’t you stop them right away? That sounds strange to me.

  • Heather

Uh…it’s the National Enquirer…do you honestly thing anything they publish in there is real?

  • Heather

Wow…strange then that the Chinese, Japanese and South East Asians aren’t a bunch of fatties like Americans. They use msg all the time.

  • Crista

I agree with you completely. The amount of carbohydrate we need is very little and all the grains and heavy carbohydrates have been only recently introduced into the human diet and hyped by the commercials supported by those scientists and researchers that have something to gain from the food industry. I am a nutrition consultant and I have found that all my patients lose weight, improve all their health parameters by removing all the heavy carbs and refined carbs including the additives, flavours, extender….. etc
There is enough carbohydrate in the low carbohydrate vegetables and few fruits. after all, the protein and the fats are also used to supply energy without causing unnecessary spikes in blood sugar, detrimental to our health in general.
The only time I have ever lost weight and felt energetic and really healthy is when I ditch all the heavy carbs. And thats what I do everyday. At 58, I look feel 30 and have never needed to see a doctor for 15 years.

  • Mary

A very good point in reference to the plastic surgeon, Shel. Also, I’ve seen Drew do the ads for Jenny Craig. He probably gets the diet for nothing. I do admire him for losing the weight, but let’s face it, he’s highly motivated doing the ads and as you said, having the personal trainor. It’s hardly doing it the “Old fashioned” way. I have 85 ibs to lose, and I do worry about having “hanging skin” afterwards, I doubt if I can afford the plastic surgery I’d need afterwards, and I suspect that thought is sabotaging my efforts to lose the weight. And BTW, it’s white bread that is unhealthy, folks. We need whole grains. Good luck to all.

  • Sue

I’m wondering if he was gluten intolerant if avoiding grains has made such a big difference so quickly. Dr Mercola has interesting things to say about the dangers of grains in the diet and thinks that many of us should avoid them. Not just the processed ones but any that contain gluten – that is wheat, rye, oats, barley. Corn and rice are OK, as are quinoa, buckwheat and amaranth.

  • Taxsmart2005

I second Pianofritz comment. I am really turned off by the so-called advice givers who are only trying to sell their product. And while they may have good advice, I delete the whole thing. Yes I would be interested in knowing more regarding what he actually ate. Not his specific diet, day by day, but just a list of the foods he ate usually during the time it was losing weight.
I would also like your comments on the DNA dieting “program” which is getting a lot of press. taxsmart2

  • Gail

    Hooray for Drew!

A few things: Drew mentioned “processed carbs” which is different from veggies, etc. He’s referring to white flour, sugar, etc.

Secondly, I don’t see anyone talking about WHAT is in our foods that MAKE us crave more sugar, more food, etc. One person mentioned MSG–a definite problem for most of us (I can’t answer why the Japanese, Chinese and others don’t seem to have a problem with it). What about the GMO foods that wreak havoc on our bodies? What about the hidden additives, chemicals and other crap put in our food without our knowledge?

Getting back t basics is the answer–but that also includes getting back to the basics of natural, wholesome foods. Just my thoughts…

  • Pattirmuller

try pilates. been in back pain boat, & comes back time to time. u can do pilates on the floor/mat & really strengthen your ‘core’. & u only do a few of each …not a zillion. made a huge difference 4 me!

  • Madelen

Glad I logged on to this today! I need some inspiration. I’ve lost 40 lbs in last seven months. I have another 100 to loose. I did same as you and Drew – low carb – avoiding while flower and sugar- eating lots of vegetables and some meat, and exercising 3 -4 times per week. But I’ve really lost enthusiasm the last couple of weeks – not exercising, eating more bread, less vegetables, sitting in front of tv. I am struggling. I’ll get back to Gineen Roth and Judy Beck. M

  • PMac

What is the name of G. Roth’s last book? thank you

  • Rose Parker

I’ll be blunt and to the point, Michael Lovitch. You and the Hypnosis Network are the absolute answer to my prayers. I am 61 years old, and have been obese for 21 years-since I had my one and only child. With The Hypnosis Network’s “Enjoying Weight Loss” by Roberta Temes, Ph.D., I have lost 24lbs since the end of June of this year. It is now August 14 and I keep dropping weight every week. What continues to floor me is the ease with which I’ve been able to accomplish this seeming miracle so consistently. It is no longer a struggle, and that is the whole crux of the matter with weight loss. I used to struggle every night not to go to bed with too much food on my stomach, but could not stop myself. This does not happen anymore. I listen to the CDs only a few times a week now. That is all that is necessary to reinforce this wonderful change in my brain. What else can I say. I am not saying this for any renumeration of any kind. Nor have I been hypnotized to say these things. LOL! Rose Parker, Los Angeles, CA

Good Job, Drew! However, as a Type II Diabetic who did the same thing, my doctor told me that once a diabetic, always a diabetis. You are still a diabetic, but one who has his weight and blood sugar under control. It’s up to you to keep it that way.

What I did for my “sugar cravings” was … take the juice of a lemon, 6 large strawberries and 2 paks of stevia and blend them up in water and ice. Makes a great strawberry lemonade and hardly any calories.

Do you think he did it to keep all of those fat women from jumping up and
wrapping their legs around him?? I think they are disgusting. It is supposed
to be a “family” show, but, those women are sleazy. Bob Barker would have
stepped out of their way and let them fall on the floor. That is what Drew should do.

Try the hypnosis CD set “Enjoying Weight Loss.” It changed my life and I am now consistently 3-4 lbs below my goal weight, without effort! I need to add that I trampoline every single day, usually 15 to 40 min. a day, split up (during the winter I trampoline much more than in the summer, which is too hot for me). Plan to do gentle bouncing while watching TV and you’ll feel quite righteous about it! You don’t even know you are exercising, it’s so easy.

I did too! However, I’ve been on a modified version of Atkins (the old “Grapefruit Diet from the ”60′s) by adding a half grapefruit to each meal. I lost 50 lbs in 50 days last year, kept it off with no effort and have started again as of 7/27. I’ve found that cutting out carbs gets rid of that 24-hr. continuous hunger. I can eat meat, eggs, butter, bacon and I add sharp cheddar/ blue cheese for “comfort food”. Make sure those cheeses have no carbs before you buy them! The half grapefruit seems to move it through and make it burn. Then I have either meat or hardboiled egg in a salad made with cabbage instead of letteuce and whatever other raw veg. I have on hand with any dressing I want . . and the half grapefruit. I can have cooked veg. but stick to broccoli, brussels sproutes and cauliflower or have them raw in the salad, where I add cheese too if I need that “comfort” taste. That really satisfies that awful hunger. I have a carb addiction apparently and one carb leads to another and another. I drink 8 -12 glasses of water a day from a measured jug, iced tea with Splenda and one small diet cola a day with Splenda as a pat on the back for having a good day! My lipids have gone from needing medication while eating carbs, down to totally normal on meat and fat. I haven’t exercised any more than some heavy gardening once or twice a week. I feel great and have no hunger pangs or cravings any longer. This is my magic bullet after trying everything else on the planet. I swear I’ll be back in size 8 before Christmas! (Whatever weight that is at age 67. It was 118 at 40) :o ) Although my diet flies in the face of current popular thought, my 2 doctors are very impressed with the results of my weight loss and my lipid profile.

It’s never a good idea to quit any pills cold turkey.

I am 5’9″ 230lbs, 69 years old and really need to lose weight. Diets don’ work for me mainly because Ican;t stay with them. I have lost a lot of weight before on a high protein diet but that really got old and when I went off of it, I shot right back to my, (what I call my normal weight 230) again with no problem. I am frustrated to no end. Any logical advise?

Way to go Drew! Thanks for posting this. Doing it the good old fashioned way is the best way for sure. It’s the most permanent way too, with less chance of the yo-yo rebound. I hope he is doing brain training too, because rewiring his brain will help keep the weight off too. Your readers should appreciate that concept!

That’s cool that the CD’s by Roberta helped you, they haven’t helped me. I think the hypnosis thing is essentially great and I wish it worked for me. I have looked for her book and can’t find it. So bottom line is that I am feeling really really down about the whole weight loss challenge.

    Hm…..
I would say that any weight loss program even good old “eat rgith and excersise” would be still a temporary one, if one do not change way of thinking.
I tried almost everything what is out there. Herbalife, Atkins, Jenny Craig, Herbal Magic and of course “eat right and excersise”. Every time I do something I loose weight and I look good and I’m happy. However something inside my brains is not working right as while I’m on the diet I wait till it’s time for me to start….EATING!!! I don’t feel staffed, I don’t feel bloated, I don’t feel ashamed…. I love it, I feel good when I eat. I love food and I love cooking. I don’t eat chips, donuts, cakes, fast food, I don’t drink pop, milk shakes, latte’s, etc. I eat healthy food, I cook from scratch, I love vegetables, fruits, fish, seafood, meats, home made soups, etc. I cook with little to none salt, lot’s of herbs, little to none sauses…. I just eat a lot of it… Portion control is not about me. So I gain weight back, not more then it was before just exactly the same to size 14, and that’s where again I get disgasted by myself and start new program. I’m tired of that… I’m so tired…. but I think my issue is in my thinking, not the food I eat or what I do in order to loose weight. All programs work, it’s just how we think what doesn’t.

Please do not lose heart. You have company. I have been at a plateau for close to two years. It turns out that I have what is called “Wilson’s temperature syndrome” which essentially means that my body temperature is much lower than normal, preventing the enzymes in the cells from functioning properly. It might be worth your while to check your temperature for a week or so, three times a day and take the average. If you find your average temperature falls below normal, and you share a number of a long list of symptoms, you, too, may be a victim of WTS. If you find your temperature is normal, then may I suggest reading Dr. Daniel Amen’s newest book, Change your Brain, Change your Body. He thinks that the issue for many of us trying so diligently to lose excess weight is, in fact, the brain. Get to know your brain and he assures us that we will get to have the body that we have always wanted.

I started using Roberta’s CDs over a year ago and am down over 30 lbs. It took about a month for them to really kick in, greatly enhancing my ability to control my portions and my sugar tooth. You might want to just give it more time!

I find good health habits come about best when you decide on something you want so much that you will find a way (or several) to overcome your own weaknesses consistently. I had Graves’ Disease, a hyperthyroid condition, twice. The first time I treated medically, the second time by dietary and lifestyle changes. What made it work was my determination to either get well or die. I had made up my mind I didn’t want to live forever feeling tired and in a fog. Initially I had a lot of raw foods, with a period of primarily vegetarian meals. After two years, I looked great and felt incredibly healthier. I no longer have the symptoms of Graves’ Disease.

Following a C-section in my early ’40s, I still look heavy, but I am gradually returning to greater energy, stronger muscles, and more flexibility. I believe almost any person who finds that unfailing motivation that will win over all other temptations consistently (even if not absolutely perfectly) can regain greater health and a healthy weight using exercise and a healthy food plan. I personally find the changes easier as I use alternative relaxation and stress management techniques to keep my highest priorities high.
